Mind Motivation: Getting Started

The power to transform your body into a healthy, strong and shapely one starts in your mind. You have to have a clear picture visualized of what you want to look like and what you want to be able to achieve if you want to reach your goal. What you see in your mind’s eye is the key.

I have always been fascinated by the potential of the human physique. For years, I practiced gymnastics and developed a competitive spirit. At the age of 14, I started growing in height. It was then I first picked up a fitness magazine and was motivated by the looks of all the great champions in it. I wanted to look the same way and immediately started to visualize it in my mind. Building the body to it’s potential is still my passion today.

It all began long before I ever took my first steps into a gym. When I am offered a role to play for a film or television show, I use visualization as part of my training in order to prepare for it. When a film requires a character I play to look a certain way, I adjust my preparation and training to transform into character.

Actors often do this depending on the role they play. The question you could ask yourself is what role do I want to play in my life?  And think of your body as part of your costume. Ask yourself: Do I want to look like someone who is fit and healthy or someone who is out of shape? Begin by visualizing the kind of body that you need to play that role.

That’s the starting point. Having role models can be helpful too. Find photos of the kind of physiques that have attributes or body parts you want to model yourself after. I had a friend who cut out his head and put it on a photo of the body that he wanted.

A year later, his body looked almost exactly the same as the one he only dreamed about the year before. Having an inspiring dream and then visualizing it often while taking the steps necessary to make it possible will lead towards the realization of that dream.
